Curious About American Salaries?

(This article, by Kevin Cuddihy, is a reprint from STC’s Notebook blog.)

STC head office released the 2010-2011 Salary Database (with 2010 data) in early August, and many members have already purchased it (thanks!). There’s a wealth of great information in the Salary Database, so we wanted to try and share some of that with you here on STC’s Notebook—to give you a little taste and perhaps get you wanting more.

First, we’ve added an excerpt of the Salary Database to the STC website. Click on the link from that page for a look at the table of contents and introduction, plus a snippet from the summary, a sample map, and sample charts from each area of the publication (geographic, industry, and professional).

Second, we’re planning an audio podcast with the author of the report, STC’s economist (and 2010 President’s Award honoree) Rick O’Sullivan, along with former STC president Mark Clifford, the CEO/owner of a recruiting, outsourcing, and consulting firm. To that end, we’re inviting questions for the podcast here. Do you want to know the best way to use the Salary Database? Looking for tips on how it can help you get a job or a raise? Interested in the general trends in technical communication hiring? Send me an email and we’ll ask Rick and Mark as many questions as we can!
