STC Alberta gets bragging rights thanks to our local Competition winners:
- Charles Jeffrey (STC Alberta Senior Member), Nicole Foss (STC Alberta Member and former New Heights Manager), and Lori Winkler, of NovAtel.
- Sherry Wilson McEwen (STC Alberta Senior Member), of Nexen.
NovAtel’s Book Project
With Charles leading the way, Nicole and Lori worked on a book project supported by NovAtel Inc, which specializes in OEM global satellite positioning products. They submitted their book, “An Introduction to GNSS: GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and Other Global Navigation Satellite Systems”, to the STC International Competition. On a Regional Level, they received a Distinguished Award. On an International Level, competing with submissions from all over the world, they received a Merit Award. The award-winning book is posted online and printed copies are also available.
Nexen’s User Support Project
Sherry worked for Nexen last year and created a training suite called eMOC Training Materials, consisting of a User Guide, Quick Reference Guides, a PowerPoint presentation, Technical Reference manual, System Administration Reference Guide, Self-Study Workbook, and Instructor checklists. She received an Excellence Award in the STC Competitions for her User Support Materials entry. The award-winning suite of documents is being used by Nexen corporate-wide, to train course facilitators and users of its new electronic Management of Change (eMOC) SAP-compatible application.
The STC Competition sets the standard for quality technical communications. People enter the STC Competition not only with the hope of winning an award, but also to receive thorough critique and constructive feedback from a body of their peers. This year’s competition was strong: A total of 117 entries were evaluated and there were 13 Distinguished Awards given, 36 Excellence Awards, and 29 Merit Awards. Clearly Alberta communicators are making the grade! Have you heard of other Competition winners? Let us know and we will happily promote the accomplishment.
Congratulations to the winners for producing quality documentation that all of us can be proud of!
