Leadership Grant
The Alberta Chapter announces a Leadership Training Grant
Purpose
The Alberta Chapter seeks to promote management and leadership skills among executive members to help ensure
effective chapter operation. The Leadership Training Grant is available to incoming members of the Alberta Chapter
Executive (terms beginning July 1) to help them acquire these skills, and to further their knowledge about STC and its
operations.
Guidelines
- The grant must be used to defray expenses associated with attending STC-sponsored leadership events, such as the
Chapter Leader's Workshop commonly held during the Region 7 Conference, the Leadership Day preceding the STC Annual
Conference, or another STC-sponsored leadership event. Other management/leadership training is ineligible.
- The grant may be applied to any portion of the expenses, including conference registration, travel costs, and
accommodation.
- The maximum amount of the grant is $750.00CDN. This amount may be reviewed from time to time by the Exeuctive
Council, but will always be fixed the year before a grant is awarded.
- There is no obligation to award the grant in a given year. If no eligible candidate is able to attend one of the
specified events, then the grant will not be awarded that year.
- Before the grant is awarded, the candidate must sign an agreement to complete his/her term (1 year). If a
candidate leaves office before the end of the STC term (ending June 30), or does not continue performing the duties of
their office, the candidate will immediately return the full amount of the grant to the Alberta Chapter.
- The candidate will also agree to share the knowledge obtained during the leadership training with other members of
the Executive.
Eligibility
The training grant is made available in this priority sequence:
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary/Treasurer
- Another member of the Executive who expresses a strong interest in taking on the President or Vice President
position for the next year. A candidate in this category will agree to continue on the Executive for a full, second
term.
If multiple candidates are eligible (categories 3 and 4) and have applied for the training grant, the Executive
will select the candidate by a majority open vote (not secret ballot) at an Executive meeting, after hearing a brief
statement from each candidate. Candidates are ineligible to vote.
Process
Candidates must express their interest in the grant as soon as possible, in a letter to the current Chapter
President, to allow other candidates with lower priority sufficient opportunity to make plans.
The Chapter will release the grant funds upon presentation of suitable receipts, in accordance with the Chapter's
usual process for reimbursing expenses.
